Brazilian Instruments / Instrumentos - Caixa De Guerra (snare drum)
Made out of either aluminium or steel, with nylon heads and played with the wires (bordões) on top using wooden drums sticks. The caixa provides a constant swing (suingue) to the sound of the bateria.

The caixa can be played played in the manner of the Eurpoean military bands, suspended from a strap (talabarte) worn over the shoulder.

The caixa can also be played "Em cima", at shoulder height, helping to project the sound of the drum further.
